Analysis and evaluation of urban sustainability indexes in greater Mashhad

Sustainability is an attitude formed in 1970s following the awareness of environmental crisis, their result reactions and the change in man’s point of view of the world which in the last three decades of the 20th century the considerable continues attention of individuals, researchers and governments to environmental sustainability issue has made the request for stable urban development and a sustainable city the most important human challenge in the 21st century. However urban sustainability does not limit to environmental issues and achieving economic dynamics, livable environment and social trust are among the other important aspects of sustainability which with daily development and expansion of cities and their problems and challenges, the cities require expansion in all dimensions and factors to be able to improve all the concepts of sustainability, man’s health and ecology system on a parallel basis and supply all man’s requirements without destroying the abilities of future generations. This development requires sustainability. This type of development has direct relationship with the welfare of people in urban districts, therefore consists all the aspects of an urban life from economic and social politics to skeletal and since all of these aspects are naturally connected and leave their effects on each other, it requires a precise planning and designing framework to achieve the highest level of Sustainable development in cities and urban districts. With this description, in this research, I intend, in addition to analyzing the fundamentals of development, urban Sustainable development and its role and place in upgrading the quality of urban life, also identify urban sustainability indexes and the level of satisfaction of citizens from their living environment vitality in different textures of the greater Mashhad (traditional texture, designed texture, rural texture and suburb texture). The method applied in this research is combined analytic-survey which is used to study the level of sustainability and vitality satisfaction of citizens of Mashhad, via a questioner filled by citizens residing in four traditional, designed, rural and suburb textures. Statistical method has been used for analysing the questioners and using scientific tests the sustainability satisfaction level of citizens has been determined
