Efficient control of roads safety through tracking vehicles can assist decreasing traffic accidents. To achieve this objective installing traffic cameras in optimum places are required. This paper attempts to highlight the importance of ubiquitous GIS for optimum site selection of urban traffic cameras based on Voronoi diagram,analytical hierarchical process (AHP) and image fusion concepts. In the first step, important criteria such as annual traffic flow, accident data, slope and distancefrom traffic attracting places were identified. Then, AHP algorithm was employed for weighting these criteria. The estimated weights from AHP were used to identify critical links based on their importance. In the next step, the optimum points for camera installation on the critical links were determined using Voronoi diagrams. Some installed targets along each selected links were considered and the visibility of targets was evaluated. The camera site selection gives the best coverage for vehicle tracking using Voronoi diagram. Finally image fusion concept based on wavelet theory was considered to assist tracking vehicles using multi temporal images of the installed cameras in optimum places which could lead to more efficient control of roads safety
