چکیده مقاله:

Inrecent decades, gender as one of the significant factors in learning a foreign language has received increasing attention in the field of English language teaching. Consequently, some studies have investigated the relationship between gender and language skills. However, studies on gender differences in EFL/ESL writing are extremely rare. Hence, the major purpose of this study is to investigate some writing features that are investigated less than other features. The present study was conducted to investigate the relationship between gender, Lexical density and grammatical complexity in the writings of Iranian IELTS examinees. To fulfill the purpose of the study, 51 EFL learners (24 female and 27 male) in English language teaching institutes of Saveh and Tehran were selected to write a composition about the topic; What would you do, if you won one million dollars? After gathering papers, they were corrected by two EFL teachers; one of them was an instructor in the Islamic Azad University of Saveh and the other was an instructor of IELTS classes in Tehran. Then according to formulas of lexical density and grammatical complexity, averages of these two factors were calculated by applying Point-Bi-Serial Correlation in SPSS software. It was concluded that there was no significant difference between writing performances of males and females.
