چکیده مقاله:
Nowadays truancy is a common phenomenon all over the world. Many students skip many classes for different justified and unjustified reasons. This study was conducted in Iran to explore the reasons that EFL learners might have for staying away from English classes. The participants were fifty five EFL learners at language institutes in Tehran. They were asked to complete a questionnaire that investigated their attitudes to and reasons for truancy. Their responses to questionnaire showed that generally all of them had a high percentage of truancy and their reasons mostly had to do with the textbooks and teachers. This result has some implications for educational program developers and teachers. Program developers should develop materials that are useful for students and they can learn a lot from it. Teacher should behave in a way that prevents students from skipping classes a lot without unjustified reasons
