چکیده مقاله:

One of the most outstanding thinkers and philosophers, undoubtedly, of 18th century’s classic literature is Jean Jacques Rousseau. He remains an important figure in the history of philosophy, both because of his contributions to political philosophy and moral psychology and because of his influence on later thinkers. Every day some new points and aspects are being discovered from his writings which verify his pioneering role in political, social, and cultural issues. Rousseau's ideas about education are mainly expounded in Emile. The Emile (or on Education) is essentially a work that details Rousseau’s philosophy of education. It is remembered best as Rousseau’s statement of his philosophy of education and as a groundbreaking work in educational reform. In that work, he advances the idea of negative education , which is a form of child-centered education. The Emile develops the basis of education that educates the contemporary generation. What is important in the present study is emphasis on moralities dimension by which Rousseau intends to create moral edification in the society. The solution to the moral edification is through reforming the education. Therefore, the literary work foundation is based on implementing a way of pedagogy which acts in conformity with the nature and human nature so that it can keep human from corruptions and defects of civilization and the society far from the nature. To this end, Rousseau decides to provide a fundamental type of pedagogical method which from one hand recommends returning to the nature and from the other hand reproaches civilized society manifestations. The underlying question in this study is to what extend the Emile book conforms to the realities of the contemporary society and do these pedagogical methods are acquirable? Can Emile book be referred to as an educational source? It can be concluded that Rousseau’s aim in the Emile is to change the moral principles of the society, as he believes that all of the society problems are originated from moral deviations and he made an attempt to solve it. That’s why the Emile has been written. It also appears that he is searching for an unobtainable utopia that is far from the realities of the society. Moreover, it is impossible to conform some Rousseau’s beliefs with ideas governing the contemporary society. Thus, although this inconformity creates contradiction, there are useful statements in this book for human genre
