چکیده مقاله:

As language learners bring a plethora of individual differences to learning arena, it’s worth paying attention to these variables. Reiff (2003) believe that everyone has multiple learning styles. Similarly, evidence indicated that when material is presented in one’s preferred learning styles or dominant intelligences he can learn better, faster and will retain more information (Lane, 2000). This especially holds true when it comes to cooperative learning in which all learners, despite all their differences, bring information and share with other partners on the task at hand. According to Smith (2006), Gardner admitted the existence of a close relationship between his theory and discussion of learning styles. The aim of the present study is examining the way that MI can be utilized in relation to enhancing reading abilities in cooperative learning. First, Topnotch Placement Test (2006) was used to put participants into homogeneous groups at intermediate level. Then, Gardner’s eight intelligence types’ questionnaire (Armstrong, 2009) was used. Here the focus was on the answers of the subjects to Linguistic and Interpersonal intelligence questionnaire. Then the subjects were randomly assigned into 4 groups, two experimentals and two controls. Then, the pretest was given to the subjects. Then the treatment was given to the experimental groups. It was in the form of Team-Games-Tournament (TGT) and Jigsaw activities. And, finally, the last test as a posttest on reading comprehension ability. The results of the data analysis showed that there was a significant difference between the means of the groups. It can be safely said that the difference between the groups was due to the difference in instructional activities. The findings give more credit to Mackie’s (2005) research in which there was a sensible relationship between Linguistic intelligence and graphic design that helped learners to be more efficient at reading. This makes sense as far as the Linguistic intelligence is a weight in writing, reading, memorizing dates, thinking in words, telling stories. Also, the results of the present study are in line with Siahpoosh (2006) that was related to finding any possible relationships between linguistic intelligence and English language learning in an EFL context.
