چکیده مقاله:

Drama translation is an issue that among translators has been less discussed and scrutinized in Iran. Perhaps, this is due to the fact that some know the novel translation is same as the play translation. Actually, drama is very different from novel. Drama translation should be done in a much different way. The play ''Death of a Salesman'' has been written by Arthur Miller in 1949. It reveals different characters. Every character has his/her own ideology and own perspective with respect to the modern world. The play narrates the life of a man who attempts to survive his life and his family's life in America's capitalism society. Willy Loman, the main character, is disturbed between reality and illusion. This play was translated in Iran by Ataollah Nourian as '' مرگ فروشنده (Marge Foroushandeh, 1972), which was reprinted 8 times. The Miller's masterpiece has also been translated by Ali Asghar Bahram Beigi as مرگ پیله ور (Marge pilevar, 1984), Mohammad Ali Keshavarzi as مرگ فروشنده (Marge Foroushande, 1990), Erfan Ghaneifar as مرگ دستفروش (Marge Dastfrosh, 2000), Hasan Maleki as مرگ فروشنده (Marge Foroushandeh, 2006). The play Death of a Salesman can be well studied in the perspective of Mikhail Bakhtin’s concept of dialogism. According to Bakhtin, ''dialogism'' means a process that the meaning of the text is reasoned interaction between the author and the reader. It is affected by time and place of a conversation. The factors such as social, political conditions and also listener-speaker's position are very important in a dialogue. Although Bakhtin studied the translated works in novels, it can be used in other literary genres. Dialogue is the main vehicle in a play. Dialogue is the conversation between characters in a drama or a narrative text. The aim of this article is to apply Bakhtin's notion on dialogism discourse to the play ''Death of a Salesman''. It also aims at providing a point of view in a drama translation. The translation by Attaollah Nourian (1972) is the corpus of this article. Some dialogues of the play are selected as samples. Then, the conversations between individuals will be discussed logically on the bases of Bakhtinian dialogism. Researchers examined the play and its translation on the bases of Bakhtin's dialogism. Finally, it will be shown that the Persian translator can create the same state, position and space as the English version by using appropriate colloquial words and spoken language.
