چکیده مقاله:
In line with previous enquiries, the present study in interlanguage pragmatics (ILP) has proved that some aspects of pragmatics are not impervious to instruction even in foreign language context. However, there are still controversies over the best convenient teaching techniques and the appropriate materials. Moreover, production-oriented approaches to teaching pragmatics caused scant practical studies over the perception of the frequent speech acts such as apology conducted to date. Therefore, this study attempts to investigate the effectiveness of consciousness-raising listening prompts on the perception of the speech act of apology on sixty-four (34 male & 30 female ranged in age from 17 to 27) upper-intermediate Persian learners of English who were randomly assigned to two groups of thirty-two, equally. While experimental group took advantages of listening prompts with consciousness-raising or input enhancement activities, the control group received the same listening prompts without any consciousness-raising activities. Two groups exposed to 12 conversation extracts during 14 sessions of instruction including different apology .The results of the MDCT indicated learners in the experimental group benefited from consciousness-raising activities via listening prompts outperformed the control ones. In addition, the results revealed that male and female learners' development in this pragmatic aspect of language did not differ significantly.
