چکیده مقاله:

Comparative literature is the study of literature from around the world, transcending the restrictions of national and linguistic boundaries. Traditionally, comparative study has been based on literary movements, periods and lines of influence, as well as on genres, themes, myths, and legends. In recent years comparative literature has come to include the comparison of literature with other areas of human experience. When comparative applied in a class, the class efficiency will be increased. Because of the culture gap between two languages, teaching English literature to non-native students has always been a challenging task. But by removing this culture gap through comparative literature, English literature will be more tangible for the non-natives. We can compare works of Iranian poets with those of English in literature courses. For example, having a comparative study on Forough Farokhzad and Emily Dickenson or Sylvia Plath, and also on Ahmad Shamloo and T.S Eliot can improve learners’ better understanding of English literature works. Since Iranian English literature students have a background already in Persian literature since school time. As in the English language departments of Iran the course of comparative Literature has been ignored, the more elaboration on the similar cases from the learners’ native language will create profound motivation for the students to learn the English poems and literature works much better.
