چکیده مقاله:

Internet and email are the new ways of communication which are being used for teaching and learning purposes. Electronic mail (e-mail) is an asynchronous medium, which allows participants to control their own timetables and fit learning around their other commitments. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of email on listening comprehension ability of Iranian intermediate EFL learners. Forty students were assigned into experimental and control groups. The participants in experimental group received English words as well as definitions and example sentences through email in a spaced and scheduled pattern of delivery three times a week throughout 16 sessions while those in control group were taught new words through conventional board and paper technique for the same period. Students' statues in listening comprehension ability were compared at the end of the study. The findings derived from the study showed that the use of e-mail technology can enhance their vocabulary thus resulting in better listening comprehension ability. This study also provides pedagogical implications to utilizing e-mail as an effective and flexible learning tool.
