چکیده مقاله:

The present study was conducted to investigate the effect of awareness of metacognitive strategies on the listening comprehension of Iranian upper-intermediate English language learners at a language institute in Bojnord. Having chosen 60 students in 2 classes as the control group (n=30) and the experimental group (n=30), the researcher administered a pretest. After the experimental group had received ten weeks of metacognitive strategy training, a listening comprehension test was administered as a post test to both groups. By using the t-test, the data analysis revealed that the experimental group did statistically better in the treatment and made a significant difference in their awareness of metacognitive strategies. The implication of the study is that metacognitive strategy training should be incorporated into the regular listening teaching program to help students become more effective listeners.
