چکیده مقاله:

In the field of education, media have long been used, sometimes referred to as audio-visual aids , to help in teaching. Multimedia is a preferred medium for many learners which can offer fascinating audio and visual information. This study aims to investigate the impact of Multimedia-Based Materials on vocabulary learning ability of Iranian high School EFL learners. To do so, 110 homogeneous first grade high school students in Shiraz were placed in three groups based on the medium of presenting vocabulary items: only Multimedia-Based Materials , the combination of MBM and textbook, and only textbook. Each group took a pretest at the beginning of the study and a posttest after finishing the research period. The tests were prepared based on the contents of the teaching materials in textbooks. The result of the t-test between the pretests and posttests showed that the vocabulary proficiency of the learners exposed to combination of Multimedia-Based Materials and textbook has been greatly enhanced. The attitudes of the participants, investigated via a questionnaire, showed their positive views towards Multimedia-Based Materials. The findings can be worthwhile for English teachers to motivate the learners and to develop English proficiency of Iranian high school EFL learners
