چکیده مقاله:

Although research on metadiscourse has attracted a lot of authors’ interest on studying different genres, attention has also been paid to the teaching of metadiscourse and familiarizing students with the markers. Accordingly, studies on teaching metadiscourse resources postulate its effectiveness. But the degree of effectiveness depends on the methodology applied for teaching those markers. In this paper, we explore two treatments, namely traditional way and fill in the gaps to identify how well the markers are acquired. The participants were management students (Banking and Insurance) who had general English course in Allameh Khoyi nonprofit university of Khoy during the academic year of 2013-2014. After being homogenized, two groups of students, each group consisted of 32, received two kinds of different treatments. In the first session two groups were pre tested by reading comprehension questions, then they received the instruction of textual markers. The instructor deleted the markers from the teaching materials, so the experimental group received instruction of textual resources by guessing and filling the deleted ones. The second group, control group, received explicit traditional kind of instruction. Based on pre and post-test assessment, the data collected were analyzed using t-test. The results indicated that openness of the task had significant impact on their performance and requires them to make themselves understood. In other words participants in the experimental group outperformed those in the control group. the results can be employed for teaching of writing to EFL learners.
