A Cell Vertex Finite Volume Method for Plate Bending Analysis

A cell vertex form of Finite Volume (FV) formulation is developed for the analysis of transversely loaded plate. The Mindlin-Reissner plate theory is utilized. A code is developed based on the method. Some test cases are analysed and the results are compared with the standard finite element results in terms of accuracy. When using a Mindlin-Reissner based finite element formulation locking occurs in thin plate analysis, but for the FV formulation locking behaviour is not observed and results converge to the analytical targets.
