Natural gas consumption in last 3 decades has increased considerably. During this period gas has gained the first rank among fossil fuels. Natural gas is a vital component of the world's energy basket. It is one of the cleanest, safest, and most efficient sources of energy. Researchers also predicted the future share of natural gas in energy demand basket to increase from 23 percent in 2004 to 27 percent in 2030. The increase in trend is mainly attributed to some technical,economical and environmental advantages as compared to oil consumption. Whether in an aquifer or depleted reservoir storage, the cushion gas makes up a substantial component of investment required to develop a storage project. The use of inert gas or carbon dioxide is a promising technique with the potential to significantly reduce storage investment costs. Reservoir simulations of methane injection into a model gas storage reservoir with carbon dioxide as cushion gas demonstrate that more working gas can be stored as compared to a native gas cushion.
