The AC/DC converters in the HVDV systems are a major source of harmonic generation. Moreover they cause some considerable amount of reactive power. This paper analyses regarding these two phenomena using a microcomputer based measurement on an experimental prototype in the Electric Power Research Center (EPRC). An outline of the hardware and software will be followed by a discussion about the results and comparision of them to those ones of a high precision spectrum analyzer.
