Determination of the soil resistivity is the most important of the basic parameters in power plants & H.V. substations grounding system design. Having a real model of soil, helps in safe and optimum design of grounding system. This paper describes the two layer soil model and methods of determination of the soil parameters. The more accurate parameters are obtained from curve fitting on the point which are easured at the site. The simplex optimization algorithm used in this paper provides the accurate result with lower iteration compared to the existing computer softwares.
