The Optimization of Power System Regulators to Improve Damping of Oscillations

The numerical method of robust coordinated tuning of power system regulators (AVR, PSS, SW, etc.) to improve damping of small disturbed oscillations is given. It is based on multiparameter numerical optimization to shift eigenvalues of interest to the left on complex plane. The method provides the unified adjustments of regulators for variety of power system operating conditions. Design of PSS for New England test system is illustrated.
