Voltage and power factor control by a synchronous PWM SVC

Emerging new power electronic switches capable of being rapidly turned on or off, a new branch of reactive power compensators has gone under consideration. The converters used in these compensators are of AC/DC type which use a reactive element as a capacitor or reactor in DC side instead of any DC power supply. In this paper an AC/DC converter which is a constant PWM pattern voltage source inverter is considered and studied in open loop and closed loop control strategy. A mathematical model for open loop sytem, is derived and used to study closed loop system.The results gained from this model are compared to those of simulation based on exact solution of equations of system in time domain. After confirmation of the model obtained,the closed loop voltage and power factor control is studied.
