خلاصه مقاله:
On 28 November 1945, the coasts of Pakistan, Iran, Oman and India were affected by tsunami waves generated by a submarine earthquake having magnitude of 8.1 with its epicenter located at 24.5 N 63.0 E. More than 4,000 people were killed and great destruction took place along the coasts of Pakistan, Iran, Oman and India. This study aims at giving a contribution to the assessment of tsunami risk in southern coasts of Iran using numerical modeling of the 1945 event. To model the generation phase of the tsunami a computer program has been developed based on Mansinha and Smylie (1971) equations. The generation model assumes a rectangular shape for the ruptured area and uses shear forces over the rapture surface. The propagation and runup of this tsunami has been simulated by a finite difference numerical model solving the shallow water equations. These equations have been discretized using the leap-frog scheme. Computed tsunami features such as travel times and run-up height distribution are given; which are useful in the evaluation of the tsunami hazard. Finally, model results have been compared with the observed runup values all along the affected coasts.
