Impinging streams reactors (ISR) is a novel and unique configuration in which due to impingement of two streams, high rate of transport processes (momentum, heat and mass transfer) will occur. Generally active and passive methods are the two ways to control improve transport phenomena in the reactors. In this study by using an active method, thermal and flow fields of a pulsed laminar impinging stream are investigated numerically. Pulsed impinging jets are systematically controlled with respect to their time dependence in order investigate the influence of unsteadiness on the characteristics of the system.In this study, for the first time, thermal and flow fields of laminar pulsed impinging streams (or pulsed opposing jets) are simulated by CFD approach.· Key parameters including frequency, amplitude, Reynolds number of two opposing jets are studied. Temperature is used as a passive tracer to have a quantitative criterion for mixing index.· For further understanding of the behavior of pulsed jet and influence of pulsation on mixing behavior of the system and transport processes, the vortex structures are analyzed completely in the flow field
