In this project various types of carbonyl compounds were efficiently converted to theircorresponding ۱,۳-oxathiolanes with ۲-mercaptoethanol in the presence of catalytic amountof Al-MCM-۴۱ with microwave energy. The catalyst can be reused several times without lossof its catalytic activity. Very short reaction times, reusability of the catalyst, and easy workupare noteworthy advantages of this method.
