خلاصه مقاله:
This work demonstrates the ability of the isoamyl alcohol to act as an extraction solvent in petrochemical processes for the removal of a carboxylic acid from its azeotropic mixture with water. The experimental solubility and tie line data for (water + propionic acid + isoamyl alcohol) system were determined at T = 298.15 K and atmospheric pressure. The cloud-point titration method was used to determine solubility data. The investigated ternary system exhibits type-1 behavior of liquid-liquid equilibrium (LLE). The tie line data were determined by acidimetric titration, the Karl-Fischer technique, and refractive index measurements. The consistency of the tie-line data was determined through the Othmer-Tobias correlation equation. Distribution coefficients and separation factors were calculated over the immiscibility region. The UNIQUAC and NRTL thermodynamic models were used to correlate the experimental tie-line data
