This study investigate to assess the issue of pragmatics in the Iranian and non-Iranian ELT texts. An inquiry was carried out to investigate pragmatics concepts in Iranian and non-Iranian ELT texts in realizing the speech act of refusal, acceptance, complaint, and compliment via exploring the percentage, with regard to learner's language competence (intermediate and pre-high school), status and gender of interlocutors (lower, equal and higher), types of eliciting acts (acceptance, refusal, complaint, and compliment) on realization of the strategies, and types of their communication (interactional and interpersonal). In order to explore these speech acts (acceptance, refusal, complaint, and compliment), a comparison was carried out among the international, semi-international, and local ELT source. To this end in ILI English book, Interchange English book, and Iranian state-school English book, in order, ٢٤, ١٦ and ٨ units were selected and analyzed based on corpus analysis. . To compare the speech acts in three textbooks, the Chi-square formula was employed and in each units, the researcher studied the dialogs. . The content of most dialogs, in the Iranian EFL textbooks seems to differ from the type of language used by native speakers. The result revealed that these three textbooks are different in use of pragmatic concepts. It was also demonstrated that speech acts (acceptance, refusal, complaint, and compliment) have been used in Iranian textbooks but its’ uses were limited to a few contexts.
