In this paper, using 8-band k.p method, we study the possibility of using pyramidal and cubic shape selfassembled InAs/GaAs quantum dots (QD) for absorption and detection in the far infrared and terahertz region. Considering homogeneous and inhomogeneous broadening, we calculate the intersubband absorption of the QDs from the ground state to 3 first excited states. To have absorption in the range of far infrared and Terahertz, the appropriate quantum dot sizes are calculated. Considering the coverage factor of self-assembled QDs, the quantum efficiency is
calculated.
