In this study, ammonium-functionalized MCM-41 and MCM-48 were used as an adsorbent to remove lead and cerium ions from aqueous solutions. The materials were characterized by infrared (IR)spectroscopies, low-angle X-ray diffraction (XRD), surface analysis (BET) and thermogravimetric analysis. The effect of experimental parameters such as PH , temperature, concentration and contact time were studied and optimized.The adsorption capacity increased with initial cation concentration. The removal of lead was maximum at pH 4, while cerium ion was maximized at pH 6.
