This study presents a new method of harmony search (HS) to determine the optimum cutting parameters leading to simultaneous minimum of two objectives, used tool life and operation time. An application sample is used to illustrate the capabilities of the HS algorithm and the genetic algorithm (GA) is used to solve the same problem for validation purposes. The obtained results demonstrate that the HS algorithm is more effective and accurate in approaching the global optimum solution than the GA.
