چکیده مقاله:

Background: Although the most common form of coronary artery disease is stenosis, in some cases occur abnormal dilatations as coronary artery ectasia (CAE). This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of CAE and its associated factors. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 2967 patients undergoing angiography in Vali-E-Asr Hospital, Birjand (between 2011-2017). Patients demographic information, cardiac risk factors and angiographic results were extracted from the medical records. Data were analyzed by independent t-test, Mann-Whitney and Chi-square tests using SPSS software. Results: Prevalence of CAE was 2.9%. Mean age of patients was 59.44±10.15 years that 48.2% were male. Results show that male gender (48.2% vs. 32.3%) and age (59.44±10.15 vs. 53.98±9.97) were significantly higher in CAE group than normal coroner group. In addition, body mass index (27.04±5.57 vs. 25.41±5.0) was significantly higher in CAE group but male gender (48.2% vs. 62.1%), HDL (39.31±12.67 vs. 42.23±13.12) and diabetes mellitus were significantly lower than CAD stenosis group (18.4% vs. 27%). Conclusion: In conclusion the prevalence of CAE is lower in our study. Old age, male sex, obesity and Low HDL are CAE risk factors but diabetes is a preventing factor in our study.
