Background and Aim : Studies show that the presence of various risk factors, including intravenous drug abuse, causes the transmission of diseases such as hepatitis C and HIV. Hepatitis C virus is the main cause of chronic liver hepatitis, causing thousands of deaths annually. The most important programs for preventing these diseases are informing society about the causes of drug use and its symptoms. The purpose of this study was to investigate the status of addiction and hepatitis C infection in patients with HIV in Ahwaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences in 1397 that referred to Behavioral Counseling Centers of Ahwaz University.Methods : In a cross-sectional descriptive study, out of a total of 856 active and infected patients with HIV-positive, 265 simultaneous patients with hepatitis C virus were referred to the Behavioral Disease Counseling Centers of Ahvaz University in 1397 and the drug abuse review were investigated. Drug use records from the HIVDB software were extracted.Results : In the present study, 856 HIV positive patients with 233 women (27%) and 623 men (73%) were HIV positive in 520 people, including 21 women (4%) and 499 men (96%) Have a history of addiction. Also, HIV-positive patients with hepatitis C virus are 263, of whom 7 were women (3%) and 256 men (97%). Also, among HIV positive patients with a history of hepatitis C infection, out of 244 , 1 was woman (1%) and 243 were men (99%), In addition, among patients with HIV-positive and hepatitis C, 94% had a history of drug abuse , 84% had a history of Joint drug abuse, and 7% had no history of addiction. The dominant age group was in the age range of 21-40 years (58%).Conclusion : There is a direct relationship between drug addiction and hepatitis C and HIV infection. Therefore, with regard to the predominant age group that forms the young population of the community, education in these individuals can play a role in preventing the transmission of HIV and hepatitis C virus.
