چکیده مقاله:

This article gives an account of the wound healing and features a detailed exploration of phytochemistry aspects of Yarrow (Achillea millefolium). Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) is a plant in the Asteraceae family and it has been used for thousands of years to heal burn wounds, scars, skin ulcers, and sores. Preclinical studies show that these properties are because of the presence of active terpenes such as camphor, flavonoids such as apigenin and alkaloids such as betonicine, amino and fatty acids such as linoleic. Due to the important functional and aesthetic role of skin, wound healing is a vital research area.Inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling are three phases of repairing process of wound and Yarrow illustrate a considerable potential for wound healing possibly by accelerating the collagenation and proliferation phase of wound healing.Electronic databases such as PubMed, Google Scholar, Scopus, and Medscape and Ibn Sina’s book named Al-Shifa and The canon of Medicine, Qarabadin-e kabir of aghili khorasani were searched for wound healing activity of yarrow. To write this review, the researchers have been used the most important papers written in this area.According to the studies, infection as a result of burn wounds may lead to a 50% increased death rate, so herbal remedies that have minimal adverse effects like Yarrow s bio-active ingredients could be a good candidate as future drugs for the healing of wounds. Further clinical and pharmacological reserach are recommended for exploring safety and exact mechanisms of Achillea millefolium. It follows that the present article includes the detailed exploration of bioactive ingredients and wound healing properties of yarrow (Achillea millefolium) in an attempt to provide a direction for further research to develop a potent herbal drug.
