Investigation of road-structural changes in Hyrcanian Forests in Mazandaran from 1988 to 2018 using landscape ecology metrics

Increasing the depth of the effects of human activities has made the effects of these activities felt in all places, even in completely natural areas. So that there are conflicting and incompatible uses that are in complete conflict with their primary purpose of protection, it has damaged the structure and prevented the realization of the goals and practices of these sensitive and important areas. The roads are of particular importance among the incompatible land uses within the sensitive areas, because of their long length, the affected area and the resulting impacts will be more extensive and complex. Considering the negative structural impacts of the road construction and operation of the crossing road from the forest, in this study, forest ecology metrics were used to quantify structural changes to determine the spatial effects of this road. The results of the metric measurements show an increase in fragmentation in Hyrcanian forests, which is visible on the land level and dense forest class.
