چکیده مقاله:

Background & Objectives:Genetic background and blood groups are the two important factors in creating diabetes. Itseems that the blood groups have roles in creating it, so the purpose of the present study wasto survey the frequency distribution of blood groups in diabetic and non-diabetic patients andthe relationship between blood groups and diabetes type 2.Materials & Methods:This cross-sectional study included 600 diabetic patients with type II diabetes as the casegroup and 600 cases randomly selected as the control group who had the normal fastingblood sugar. All the study patients underwent blood type tests.Results:The mean age of the case and control groups was 55.3 and 38.2 years. The distribution ofblood groups between the case group was: A, B, AB & O in order 29.2, 27.8, 10.1, 32.9percent, blood groups with rh+ 86.6 and rh- 13.4 was in case group. the above resultsbetween the control group was as: A, B, AB & O in order 28.7, 26.5, 9.5, 35.3 percent,blood groups with rh+ 88.3 and rh- 11.7.The chi-square test demonstrated no significant differences between the distribution of bloodgroups and diabetes.Conclusion:Our results showed no significant relationship between diabetes and blood groups.
