چکیده مقاله:

Background:Human papillomavirus (HPV) has been considered to be an etiological factor for severalcancers such as colon carcinomas. The aim of this study was to assess the presence of HPVDNAin colon adenocarcinomas and adenomas to determine the relationship of HPVinfection with colon carcinogenesis.Materials and Methods:Formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded tissue samples of 70 patients with colonadenocarcinoma and 30 patients with adenoma (as study group) and 30 tumor adjacent tissues(as control) were studied. HPV-DNA was purified and first amplified through MY09/MY11and GP5+/GP6+ primers. Subsequently for more precision, another PCR was performedusing PGMY09/11 L1 consensus primer system. Results:All adenocarcinomas and adenomas samples as well as normal tumor adjacent tissues werenegative for HPV in two PCR assays. Conclusion:Our results indicated that there was no correlation between HPV infection and colorectalcarcinomas and adenomas. Further studies are required to elucidate the role of HPV infectionin colon carcinogenesis.
