Small bowel hemangioma, a case report

Hemangiomas of the small bowel are rare and account for only 0.05% of all intestinalneoplasm. The common location in the small bowel is the mid jejunum. They have atendency toward multiplicity and solitary tumors are extremely rare. Hemangiomas have anassociation with systemic angiomatoses such as blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome, Maffucci’ssyndrome and Klippel-Trenaunay -weber syndrome. Gastrointestinal hemangiomas arisefrom sub mucosal vascular plexus and may invade the muscularis layer. They usually presentin young people. Hemangiomas of GI tract usually present with intestinal bleeding, anemia,intussusception, bowel obstruction and perforation. GI hemangiomas are classified ascavernous, capillary, and mixed types.We present a 4 year old girl with anemia, abdominal pain and history of massive rectalbleeding. Pre operative diagnosis was Meckel’s diverticulum. On gross examination, multiplemucosal polypoid lesions were seen in the ileum; histologically, they were mixed cavernousand capillary hemangiomas.
