The accuracy of frozen section diagnosis in Besat hospital Hamedan-Iran during 2008-2014

چکیده مقاله:

Introduction: Frozen section diagnosis is a pathological laboratory procedure to perform rapid microscopic analysis of a specimen. It is used most often in oncological surgery .In this study we aimed to assess the accuracy of frozen section diagnosis in Besat hospital of Hamedan during a 6 year time span. Materials and Methods: In this study we retrospectively assessed the pathological report sheets of all patients who have undergone surgery and frozen section was requested for them in a 6 year period of time and used the extracted data to calculated sensitivity, specificity positive predictive value negative predictive value, false positive, false negative and accuracy of this procedure. Results: In this study the overall accuracy of frozen section diagnosis was 98.7%, sensitivity and specificity of frozen section were 97.4% and 99.59% respectively. This study had 0.4% false positive and 2.25% false negative results. Positive predictive value and negative predictive value of this study were 99.54% and 98% respectively. Conclusion: The overall accuracy of frozen section in this study was more than those stated in other similar studies. Other study indicies of this study were in concordance with previous ones.
