Her2-neu over expression in gastric adenocarcinoma,correlation with clinicopathologic features

BACKGROUND and AIMS:Each year about 1.000.000 new cases of gastric cancer are diagnosed in the world. A tumor with high mortality and morbidity rate, 5 years survival rate is less than 20 percent. Nowadays, Target therapy is considered in treatment which one of them is HER2. HER2 over expression in gastric cancer reveal variable range of 4-53 % in different searches.METHOD: In this study 61 patients who were diagnosed as gastric cancer and underwent surgical resection. Paraffin blocks of patient’s tumor stained for HER2 with IHC method then prepared slides were examined and scored. Finally evaluated by SPSS soft ware.RESULTS:This study included a total of 61 patients including 51 males and 10 females. The patients age ranged from 34-81 years with a median of 61.2 years. 54 cases were intestinal, 3 cases of diffuse, 2 cases of mucinous and 2 cases of adenosquamouse subtypes. 20% well differentiated 46 % of tumors moderately differentiated and 34 % poorly differentiated. IHC for HER2 were negative in 8% patients, 1+ in 34.5%, 2+ in 24.5 % and 3+ in 33%.CONCLUSION:In this study HER2 expression has not relationship with variables data includes: age, gender. But, correlated by larger size and seen more in Antrum site , pT2 , positive nodes, Mucin producing tumor .
