چکیده مقاله:

Introduction: The survival of endometrial cells on ectopic locations, named endometriosis which is a complex pathophysiological phenomenon. Endometriosis is one of the most common gynecological diseases in women. Several elements as predisposing factors have been studied for endometriosis. It has been predicted that infectious agentsmay be influencing to the disease. This study was conducted to investigate the presence of cytomegalovirus infection in endometriosis lesions. Material and methods: This case-control study was conducted at Sarem Women Hospital in 1395. DNA was extracted from 70 paraffinembedded blocks, which included 35 samples of endometriosis tissues and 35 endometrial tissues from people without endometriosis. Polymerase chain reaction was applied to investigate then presence of cytomegalovirus in the samples. Results: In this study, infection of cytomegalovirus was not observed in any samples of patients and control groups. Conclusion: Although the findings of this study did not indicated the association between cytomegalovirus infection and the prevalence of endometriosis but due to the hypothesis that inflammation and disorders of the immune system as a result of infection will increase invasion and implantation of basal cells of endometrial along with retrograde menstruation to the myometrium and abdomen, in further studies we will examine the role of other infectious agents.
