Effect of Atorvastatin on Mean Platelet Volume (MPV), in New Case Hypercholesterolemia Patients.

چکیده مقاله:

Objective: Recent studies have demonstrated that the beneficial effects of statins are not limited to LDL lowering effect. The purpose of this study the effect of atorvastatin on mean platelet volume (MPV) in newly diagnosed hypercholesterolemia patients.Material and Methods: Semi-experimental study was done in Hamadan 2016-2017.There was investigated on 60 newly diagnosed hypercholesterolemia patients. The patients were treated with atorvastatin 40 mg/day for 8 weeks.Total cholesterol (TC), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), high density cholesterol (HDL-C), triglycerides (TG), and mean platelet volume (MPV) were measured before and after 8 weeks of atorvastatin treatment .Statistical analysis was performed using the statistical software program SPSS for Windows, version 16.00 (SPSS Inc. Chicago, IL). P<0.05 was considered statistically significant.Results: among 60patients, 17 individuals (28.3 %) and 43 individuals (71.7%) were male and female respectively. Age average in male was 52.17±10.98 and in female was equal with 51.9± 9.31(P=0.910). Compared to the beginning of the study Mean cholesterol, triglyceride, and LDL levels decreased significantly .The mean platelet volume decreased from 9.19 fl to 9.05 fl (P<0.05).Conclusion: According to the present findings of this study Short-term use of atorvastatin, in addition to its beneficial effects on the lipid profiles in newly diagnosed hypercholesterolaemia patients, reduces mean platelet volume (MPV).
