چکیده مقاله:

Purpose: to report Refractive, visual result and patients satisfaction after photorefractive keratectomy for myopia (six months results). Methods: 78 eyes of 39 patients underwent photorefractive keratectomy with the Alcon-Wavelight Ex500 excimer laser after a complete ophthalmologic examination and were followed for 6 months. Outcomes measured included postoperative refractive error, un corrected visual acuity (UCVA) in 3 and 6 months after PRK and patients satisfaction Results: Mean of refractive spherical equivalent (MSE) before surgery was -3.72±1.58 that change to - 0.16±0.46D 3 months and -0.29±0.33D 6 months after operation. At 3 months postoperatively,65 eyes (83.3%) were whitin ±0.5 D and 75 eyes (96.2%) were whitin±1 D of emmetropia. 6 months after PRK,68 eyes (87.2%) were within±0.5 D and 78 eyes (100%) were within ±1 D of emmetropia. 65 eyes (83.3%) obtained UCVA of 20/20 or better and 78 eyes (100%) achieved to UCVA of 20/25 or better after 3 months. 51 eyes (65.3%) had UCVA of 20/20 or better and 78 eyes (100%) had 20/25 or better after 6 months. At 6 months postoperatively, 74.4% of patients were extremely satisfied and 25.6% were very satisfied with the results and none of them were disappointed. The loss of BCVA was not seen in any eye. In this study there was no significant difference amongthe results after PRK in terms of age, sex, astigmatism and corneal thickness. Conclusion: PRK appears to be a safe, effective and predictable method to correct myopia and takes great visual results and satisfaction in short time (six months).
