An Evaluation of the Relationship between the Internet Addiction and Personality Traits

For most people, the meaning and the definition of the Internet addiction are somehow exaggerated, so that they ascribe the concept of addiction to only the abuse of drugs or drinking alcohol. The Internet addiction, as a disorder, is a psychological- physiological disorder embracing tolerating the increase of the use of the Internet, alienation, educational weakness, emotional disorders and disintegration in the field of social relationships. The aim of the present research is to evaluate the relationship between the Internet addiction and personality traits. The present study is a piece of correlative research, involving all the high school students in the city of Kermanshah, during the academic year 2013-2014. From amongst them, 240 students were selected as sample via an in-access sampling method. The research was done utilizing the Brown-Roiker personality questionnaire and the Davis addiction questionnaire. In order to analyze the data, descriptive and inferential statistical indices were utilized. The results of the research indicated that there is a meaningful relationship between the Internet addiction and all personality traits. According to the results, personality traits affect the Internet addiction.
