چکیده مقاله:

Al toxicity among the most important abiotic stress factors for crops on acid soils. During the last 30 years huge progress has been made in our understanding of the mechanisms allowing plants to tolerate high soil Al availability. Best known is the exclusion strategy achieved by the Al-induced exudation of organic acids from root tips. However, other traits can play important roles in Al exclusion, especially in hyper-resistant species like rice or Brachiaria. Different shrub and tree species native to acid tropical soils show Al-hyperaccumulation. The mechanisms allowing tolerance to extremely high Al concentrations in the leaves are still poorly explored. Here we will give an overview on both strategies and highlight future research challenges.
