چکیده مقاله:

Autism is a spectrum of neurodevelopmental disorders characterized by impairment in social communication and cognitive. The fruits of sumac contain flavonols such as quercetin, phenolic acid, and tannin. This compound has an antioxidant effect. Therefore, our purpose in this study was to investigate the effect of sumac extract on the learning disorders in an animal model of autism. All pregnant rats accept control and the positive control group received a single intraperitoneal injection of 600 mg/kg valproic acid (VPA). Pups were weaned on a postnatal day 21 (P21) and housed in groups of five animals per cage. The pups were divided into four groups as follows (1) Control group (2) positive Control group, group treated with 20 mg sumac for 30days, (3) disease group, (4) disease group treated with 20 mg sumac for 30 days. 24 h after last treatment, novel object test was used for determination of learning disorders. The duration of novel object recognition test in the patient group was significantly decreased in discrimination index than the control group (p <0/001), while sumac group significant increase compared to the patient group (p <0/001). As a whole, the obtained results indicated that the administration of sumac, improve learning disorders in an animal model of autism.
