چکیده مقاله:

The studies have shown that extraction of Cyperus Rotundus (CR) rhizomes enhances information recall. On the other hands, there are numerous reports that different models of stress impair memory retrieval in animals. In the present study, we assessed the possible improvement effect of extraction of CR rhizomes on stress-induced impairment memory retrieval. Four groups of adult male mice (25-30 gr) were used in this study. The length of the experiments period, for all groups of animal, was 9days. The animals were received drinking water or several doses of extraction of CR rhizomes (25, 50 mg/kg) as oral gavage for 7 days. On the 8th day, the animals were trained by step-through apparatus and they tested in 9th day. Elevated platform stress was induced 15 minutes before testing. Step-through latency (STL) to enter the dark chamber and spent time in the dark chamber (STD) were recorded as measures of passive avoidance memory retrieval. Results indicated that pretest induction of elevated platform stress impaired the memory retrieval. Seven days feeding by extraction of CR rhizomes (25, 50 mg/kg) improved stress-induced impairment memory retrieval in stressed animals. On the basis of these experiments, it seems that oral administration of extraction of the CR rhizomes prevents impairment effect of stress on memory retrieval in the passive avoidance task
