چکیده مقاله:
Introduction: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) includes a spectrum of liver disorders and tissue changes .One of compounds in lemongrass oil is Cital has antioxidant, anti-hyperglycemia and anti-inflammatory effects. This study is conducted to investigate the effect of Citral on biochemical, histological indicators and PPAR-α gene expression in NAFLD model induced by cholesterol in male NMRI mice at in vivo and in vitro conditions. Methods: Experimental study was performed on male NMRI mice. The mice were randomly divided to control and experimental groups that subjected to high fat diet for 4 weeks, High fat, Positive control groups and experimental groups receiving citral (10 mg/kg) by IP during 4 weeks. At the end of treatment, blood sample were taken from left ventricle and biochemical parameters and antioxidant enzymes were measured. Histological studies were performed on liver tissue samples. High fat diet increases the weight of the animals. Also after treatment with high emulsion for 4 weeks, lipid profiles, liver enzymes, increased while antioxidant enzymes show significant decrease versus control (P<0.001). Although these parameters were significantly lower in citral receiving groups compared with high fat group (P<0.001). Antioxidant enzymes levels were significantly higher in this group compared with high fat group. citral with this dose (10 mg/kg) seemed to be able to improve symptoms of NAFLD.
