چکیده مقاله:

Introductions & Aim: Colorectal Cancer is the commonest malignant cancer in the lower gastrointestinal tract and also the third deathly cancer in the world. The incidence of this cancer has been increasing during recent years in Iran. Using the right method to determine prognostic factors is important to the survival of these patients. This study showed a new method which is more efficient than the previous ones. Methods: The information of 1060 patients who registered to the Gastroenterology and Liver disease of the Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences from 2004 to 2015 and had the desired cancer were used to analyze. The Weibull distribution with non-constant shape parameter was used as a new method and the outcomes were compared to the regular Weibull based on AIC criteria. Analyses were performed using SAS.Results: Sex, age at the time of diagnosis, tumor size, the site of the tumor and BMI were the significant prognostic factors on survival of these patients when we used Weibull with non-constant shape while on the regular method only age, tumor size and the site of the tumor were determined to be significant. Conclusion: Based on AIC criteria which less is better, this new method proposed more accurate results about the effective factors on survival of patients than the usual one. Paying attention to this may cause differences.
