Investigation on occurrence and intensity of parasitic infections on fresh water fish of Kardeh Lake in Khorasan Province

Kardeh Dam lake is located in Khorasan Razavi Province on 36œ37 24 N,59œ39 51 E geographical coordinates and 40 km north of Mashhad. This research was conducted to evaluate the parasitic fauna of the Kardeh dam area, identification of parasites species and determination of mean intensity and occurrence rate of these infections. Sampling from fish Specimen was done in two steps, one in fall and other in winter. Examined species were Carassius gibelio, Capoeta heratensis, Hemiculter leucisculus, Pseudorasbora parva, Hypophthalmichthys molitrix and Alburnus hohenackeri. The results of parasitology study showed that of total 60 fish specimens, 26 number equal to prevalence of 43.3% were infected to parasites. Recovered parasites were comprised of Dactylogyrus sp. monogenea, Trichodina sp. unicelluar, digenea Diplostomum spathaceum metacerceria, nematoda Rhabdochona sp. larvae, cestoda Ligula intestinalis and Diagramma sp. The most amount of prevalence value of infection was observed in Carassius gibelio and both the least amount of infection prevalence value and mean intensity were seen in Pseudorasbora parva. As summary, it can be mentioned that the fish parasitic fauna in this area were not so impressive due to the lack of suitable hosts. Also parasitic specimens isolated in the present survey are reported for the first time from the parasitic fauna of aforesaid region fish.
