چکیده مقاله:

The present study reviews the irresponsible harvesting of fish stocks in the Persian Gulf and Oman Sea by analyzing the official reports. The results of this investigation showed that; stock assessment studies were not carried out in principle or even in general, the high percentage of bycatch fishing indicating that the fishing activities have not been done in the allowed area, the economic value of some target species is not affordable in compare with the fishing costs therefore it seems that the fishermen obtain a species harvest license, but looking for other valuable species as incidental catches, almost no environmental considerations regarding the protection of aquatic species are considered. Trawling has been dramatically increased by the fishermen in recent years, also one of the main purposes of the fishing development is to create employment for the native fishermans, but the role of them has been neglected. Also, it is predictable that, if this trend continues, sooner or later, more aquatic species will be threatened, and there will be significant ecological and social challenges ahead.
