Synthesis of 5,7-dihydroxy-8-( N-aroyl)benzamido-4- methyl coumarin in the mild conditions as anti- oxidant system

A new, convenient, and environmentally benign three- component synthesis of a novel class of coumarins is developed by condensing different aromatic aldehydes, benzamide, and 5,7-dihydroxy-4- methyl coumarin under solvent- free conditions. These reactions are catalyzed by Itrium nitrate.6 H2O (Y(NO3)3. 6 H2O) as an acidic catalyst. The method is operationally simple and provides access to a variety of 5,7- dihydroxy-8- (Naryl) benzamido-4- methyl coumarins in good to excellent yields.
