The effects of different types of green roofs on the sustainbility

Existing literature shows that several types of green roofs have been used in different countries for centurieswith confirmed benefits in different climatic conditions and building characteristics. The early history of green roofsdates back to the fifth century when Babylon’s hanging gardens were implemented. After many centuries of rareutilization during the modern age, green roofs have been rediscovered in the twentieth century by the Swiss architectLe Corbusier who included them in the five points of modern architecture.Green roofs are generally classified as extensive or intensive, though some authors include a semi-intensiveclassification .Nowadays,due to energy crisis and environment problems we should use green roofs undoubtedly .Green roofs haveessential effects on environment and humans..In this study we introduced the benefits of green roofs and their classifications.This study clearly illustrated theirdiscriptions and their benefits.After that it compared them from the prospectives of. heat transfer in green roofs, energyconsumption reduction, urban heat island effect, air pollution mitigation, water management, ecological preservation,economic benefits and Psychological benefits of greenspaces Finally the intensive green roofs achieved best score .The green roofs types include:extensives and intensives each of them have their own properties and choosing of them isrelated to the conditions of the design
