18-year-old man with swelling and painful mass in the left ankle:a case of Schwannoma

Introduction: neurilemoma or Schwannoma is benign encapsulated neuronal tumor with the origin of Schwann cells(1) It’s presentation in the lower extremity is rare(2) and commonly comes out as solitary lesion in the head and neck field. The clinical judgment is based on ultrasonography,MRI, and histopathological examination(3). This peripheral nerve tumor is resectable and has good prognosis after it’s removal surgery with sparing of nerve fascicles(4).معرفی بیمار:Case Report: 18-year-old man with painfull, swelling soft tissue mass located on the lateral aspect of his left ankle that started from months ago and gradually increased,came to the clinic his pain was getting worse by activity. There was no history of similar pain and swelling in other parts of the body, as well as underlying illnesses he did not take any medicine. Which is most commonly referred to as subcutaneous cystic structures such as sinus cyst or ganglion.بحث نتیجه گیری:Considering differential diagnosis, after the necessary examinations, the masswas removed completely by the excisional surgery. In microscopic studies with Hematoxylin and eosin staining, spherical and wave-like regions were observed in myxomatous stroma that had similarities to the high cellular and low cellular regions of Schwannoma, and thus final diagnosis of schwannoma was made.
